Some Stds such as Hpv Genital Warts or Herpes are beginning to completely take over peoples lives. Both of these are life long diseases that are incurable but treatable. Everyone should be well aware (especially if your sexually active with more than one partner) of these very dangerous diseases. How to start your own professional Blog

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

If you want to start your own professional blog there are a few simple steps:

  • First you have to choose between hosting the domain yourself or using a free blogging service. Because there are limitations on customization when you are using a free blogging service I recommend to host it yourself. There are a lot of tools that help you to find a good name for your blog.
  • The second thing you have to do is decide which open source software to use. In my opinion WordPress is the best open source software available. It’s easy to use, there are a lot of plugins and the community is really active in giving support. WordPress has a famous 5-minute installation, also for the non tech geeks.
  • The third step is to choose a theme for your blog. There are thousands of free themes available and most of them can be found in the WordPress theme directory. You can also use google to look for themes or simply buy one for a few bucks. I prefer using a free theme and customize it myself so it has some unique features.
  • Your Blog is ready to use now but you probably won’t be finished. Try to install some of the available widgets to customize it even more. New WordPress installations have a drag-and-drop sidebar feature pre-installed under the presentation tab.
  • When you’re all finished with the look and feel, you can start optimizing your blog for search engines. You can find a lot of amazing SEO power built into WordPress. Unfortunately it doesn’t all come by the default installation. There are a few easy tweaks you can do to make your blog more SEO friendly.
  • Now it’s time to start writing some posts and keep your blog up to date. If you want visitors and links to your blog remember that “Content is King”. Write good posts on a regular basis. Start visiting other blogs and leave comments to create some awareness about your blog.

Most film critics nowadays work for the major studios and give opinions that help Hollywood sell tickets. These men and women have only their personal agenda at heart. So, where can you go for movie reviews without spin and bias? I’ve recently discovered The Critical Critics and visit the site on a regular basis. The critics there provide straight forward opinions on why a movie is or isn’t worth your time and money. Their thoughts are presented in a clear and easy to understand manner. It’s no wonder The Critical Critics have been regarded as an authority on what movies are hot and what movies are not. Check them out – I think you’ll agree!

How to get an .edu link to your site?

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I have seen this question asked in a lot of forums on the Internet lately and I will soon tell you where to get .edu links, but first I need to answer another question I have seen lately.

Are .edu links any different from links from .com pages?
According to Matt Cutts blog a link from a .com page is no different from a link from a .edu page. Matt says “Google doesn’t treat .edu and .gov links differently, those pages just usually have a lot of PageRank.” (see the video at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1756437348670651505). So by just having a link to your site from a .edu domain will not by itself give you a lot of PageRank, you need to get links from pages with high PageRank to get higher PageRank for your site.

Since Google doesn’t threat .edu domain any different then other domains why should other search engines like Yahoo, MSN and Live.com do that?

Still want links from .edu domains?
Since you will not get any better ranking in search engines after a few .edu links then from a couple of .com links, why do you want .edu links for? My answer is simply: If it’s hard to get, then I want it!

Where do I get an .edu link to my site?
There are a few places where you can get .edu links to your site(s). For example at Adison University (www.adison.edu) you can get your own .edu blog for $35/month or if you’re active in their forum you can get one link to your site for free. You can also buy expired domain names with links from sites like harvard.edu or you can (this is the hard option) create your own educational institution and register a .edu domain name at www.educause.edu/edudomain/show_faq.asp?code=EDUELIGIBILITY. You can of course also become a student at any university with a .edu domain and setup your own student page (most universities offer some free space to their students to setup a personal home page).

You can also get a link from xavier.edu.eu.org if you like (it’s not a real .edu domain, but the domain contains .edu :D ).
