5 SEO Tips for a New Site

May 12th, 2007 by collinsinternet

If you are starting from scratch, here are a few tips you can use to better rank in search engines.

  1. Register your domain name for at least 2 years. If you only register it for a year, Google may see it as a spam domain and may put your site in the sandbox.
  2. Make sure that you don't have any broken links. Broken links are bad for users as well as for search spiders.
  3. Keep your title tags, meta tags, h1 tags and your content as relevant as possible. Avoid using the same information on different pages.
  4. Focus on content building. Content is what the engines want and it's what users want. Make it readable and on-topic. Write it for the users not for the spiders. By having more pages of content, you are covering more bases. Although at first you may not be able to rank for the terms that you are targeting, you can focus on long trail terms based on your content.
  5. Re-evaluate. SEO is an on-going learning process.
